Matthew Salzer - Associate Director of Bands
Matthew Salzer is a Bismarck native and a graduate of BHS. He attended North Dakota State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Instrumental Music Education. Before accepting a teaching position at BHS, Mr. Salzer taught band in Wheaton, Minnesota and McGregor, Minnesota. In both schools, he taught 6th grade, Junior High, and Senior High bands. Along with his regular teaching duties, Mr. Salzer also directed Jazz Band and Drum Line.
At Bismarck High, Mr. Salzer is directing the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble #2. He also enjoys teaching private lessons with the woodwind players and leads small and large woodwind ensembles. Mr. Salzer also teaches 6th Grade Band at Roosevelt Elementary School.
In addition to teaching music, Mr. Salzer enjoys participating in bands, small ensembles, and performing as a saxophone soloist. Currently, he performs as a percussionist with the Missouri River Community Band.
He resides in Bismarck with his wife, Krista, who is also a music teacher with Bismarck Public Schools.
